Hello all,
The 6m Trophy contest is only a few weeks away, and with some luck we may
have some more N.America openings to spice up the band.
The subject of four and six character locators came up again last year, a
new subject for our relatively inexperienced team in Pembrokeshire.
We understand the RSGB-CC's view, "log what you receive", in adjudication
apparently using nearest point of the largest square if a four-character
locator is sent, or of the country if no locator is sent, which we find very
reasonable.
But the parallel IARU R1 contest insists in their rules that a six character
locator is received.
Significant points deductions were made last year (and in previous years ?)
in the IARU results table due to this rule, where some QSO's into North and
South America were lost (unless locators were padded from QRZ.com - perish
the thought).
We don't have a problem at all with the RSGBCC rules.
But as our priority is to comply with RSGB rules, and RSGB then forwards
those logs to the IARU adjudicating country, how is it possible to comply
with IARU as well ?
It seems silly that UK stations should be penalised when compared with other
EU stations who may have a more "flexible" approach to working & logging the
long DX.
