This is a very welcome iniative by Chris & Clive.
It is not clear whether this has the 'nod' from the committee or if this forum is being used as a 'Litmus Test'! Whichever the event would be a welcome replacement for the 21/28 and with volunteers who are offering to run it. Seems like win win to me and as we have seen from Bob G3PJT with Beru and Don with IOTA both those spin offs have been highly successful. Let us see lots of input on this reflector in order that committee can see what members are in favour of.
The suggested rules appear to be well frameworked, my comments are.....
Rule 2.5 (Power.) (selfish opinion) the only RSGB contest where I am not included in the HP category by running 100w to a tribander and wires.
Rule 2.6. ( Frequency Recording) More problematic. On balance this is likely to be a 'turnoff' for many (a) new and casual entrants, who are needed to maximise available uk stns to work. These guys (a) may not bother, (b) spend as much tiime as they otherwise would, or (c) not submit a log. In that group you can also include many of the old timers who will always put in appearance for our contests. I know that frequency recording is the trend, borne out of suspician of cheating. Maybe we could follow the policy of the Russian federation for the initial years. That is to state that those who anticipate being placed in the top 5 of their category must include the frequency for every qso. This would grant a 'bus pass' for at least those I have mentioned above and quite a few more.
Rule 2.7 ( Uk to Uk working) A great incentive for little pistols on the low bands in the small hours.
Rule 2.10 (Exchange) How many overseas or casual ops read the rules? Most hear a contest going on and just join in. Many are just going to send the 599 anyway. It is an expected part of the exchange, why dispense with it, is it some sort of elite contest we want to run?
Rule 2.11 (Log Submissions) 5 days is not enough. Many guys need to spend time with family, have business' to run, go away on trips have busy and family lives. Submission by end of the following weekendis reasonable. If persons are determined to cheat they will do it within 24 hours so whether 5 or 8 days will matter little in that regard.
There is mention of the Oceana Contest, presumably there will be an exchange of logs to save us (those who enter that one too) don't have to mess about with 2 lots of serial numbers and explain gaps from those who enter that one but do not send logs to RSGB.
To summarise this in an excellent proposal, let us all get behind it.
