Brian, it's not so much that I want to keep the 21/28MHz contest but more to do with the format of a replacement event.

I really do have a major concern about it being "administered" outside the contest committee, as I suspect the committee itself will have. The
announcement doesn't really make it clear how it will be "administered" and what involvement the proposers will have. I feel this an important factor
which needs some more substance before I would want to support such an action.

I also feel the rules as presented are a major change and need some careful thought. Indeed what would be preferable is rather than one format where
relatively minor changes are introduced, several formats are submitted for discussion.

The RSGB already sponsors two 24 hour events and going from a current 12 hour event to what is proposed as a major 24 hour event certainly needs
careful consideration. Likewise, going from a two band event to a five band event also warrants the same. Going from a 2 band 12 hour event to a 5
band 24 hour event therefore also requires careful thought.

The question has to be asked "Does HF contesting need this, as proposed." So far my inclination is to give a definite NO.

If the question is "Does the RSGB need to change the format of the 21/28MHZ Contest?" then my answer is YES, but I would want to see more proposals on
the table than this.

I think it is a narrow view to support the first proposal that comes along without questioning the raison d'etre.

Owing to protests from members it has been reprieved thus far but we are aware that the committee are no longer pledged to support it. There were lots of suggestions on these pages and a desire from members for the event to be kick started from the top. As far as I am aware there has been only silence from those who administer it, so it staggers along in sufferance and apparent neglect.

Enjoyable though the contest has been it has had it's shortcomings and, as an overseas entrant I have often complained about the lack of participation from uk stns. There has also been the problem during the many middle years between sunspots when even 15 mt rs has been barely usable, a revamp was long overdue. The HFCC have a very valuable date on the contest calendar for this event. Don't blow it away by imagining that the 21/28 will go on and on, it won't, by next period around sunspot minima it will be dead and buried.
