Hello Ian (GM3SEK) et al
Thanks for your feedback and the feedback from everyone else. It is perhaps
worth clarifying exactly why Clive and I decided to make this proposal for a
new contest.
It is important to separate out our proposal from our proposed set of draft
rules - we could easily have put only the proposal (as sent to the Contest
Committee) on the website, but we felt it was reasonable to give everyone
some more information about possible rules. One downside of consulting 100
people is that you will get 100 differing opinions, so sooner or later you
have to draw a line under things, but still be responsive and not hesistate
to change things that 'don't work' first time.
Firstly, the 21/28 has been in need of replacement for a number of years.
For the reasons given in the proposal, we would not like to lose this
weekend from the RSGB Contest calendar, so a new contest seems logical.
Already we see China grabbing the Saturday (today) for a new contest, which
will overlap with Oceania SSB - what effect this will have is unknown.
Secondly, we feel that all the other reasons given in our proposal are
valid, positive reasons, which if they were not being put forward by the
Contest Committee had to be put forward by someone else.
Considering our draft rules e.g. the 5-day log submission requirement - this
and the others are not just our personal views, but are the trends in all
the major worldwide contests which UK contesters may wish to enter in
future. This new RSGB DX Contest would act as a 'bridge' from the 80m CCs to
these major events.
As it says on the webpage ( www.qsl.net/gm3woj/rsgbdxcontest.htm ) we don't
intend any more changes until after the HF Convention, where hopefully we
can discuss things face-to-face - always more worthwhile.
We are QRX for the Contest Committees response to our proposal...
