Hi,
Chris, couldn't find you on Tuesday on 432, sri.
It probably isn't broken for you, but for others it's, well damaged, that's
why this debate is continuing. This proposal may just scratch the surface of
leveling things up a bit, but it's not the whole answer.
I'm referring to 144 & 432 mainly here, as those are the core bands for
UKAC, see other comments for the other bands.
If you think we're going to get loads of extra mult's than those farther
away from EU then think again. The most likely mult's are ON,PA,DL,F these
can be and are worked by almost all squares in some proportion, and would
certainly be ok for me in all sessions. Then there's EA,HB9,OZ,SM & LX as
the next likeliest. I've probably worked two of those in a session once a
year and one every so often, and LX is quite rare. To think all would be
worked in a session is unrealistic. Usually these are only worked during a
lift and others inland work them too, and at greater distance, so there's
not much of an advantage there for us down here.
If you take Tuesdays claimed scores, in the top 15 the lowest mult's was 15,
I worked 10. So I need 5 extra to get parity, that's the 4 I've indicated
above, plus one of the other "harder" ones. But of those top 15 some
probably would have and did work proposed mult's, so they get ahead again,
plus the distances involved are greater for the same contact. Top 2 in
claimed scores for Tuesday, don't for get this is 432, GI & GD, ODX was F, I
rest my case.
If you included ALL DXCC's then your advantage will be increased again,
opposed to those on the fringes. You can easily work EI,GI,GD,GM & GW. For
us that's not so easy, certainly to work all those in one evening. I just
checked my overall log and the last time I worked EI on any band was
07/07/12, the time before was 02/07/12, both EI9E/p in field day, not your
average station.
This might work for 6M in the ES season, and possibly 23/13 cms,but other
than that it's not going to help much. Having said that, in the lack of
anything else, let's try it and see the outcome by comparing this years
results with 2013, and see if there's any significant change. Then go from
there.
The previous rules weren't right and the current ones aren't either, we'll
have to see what these bring, if implemented. But I fear there will be a
large NO vote because those in central UK will feel they will lose out,
that's human nature. You might even have to point your beams south east for
the extra mult's. :0)
There needs to be a radical rethink of how you take as may variables out of
the equation as you can, without losing participation. If you take the
attitude that "well most are happy" then you are failing your members.

When something isn't broken, don't try to fix it!
Create a multiplier out of UK squares and overseas countries?
It just doesn't seem logical to combine the two. Chalk + Cheese!!
However if the CC deems it necessary to tweak the rules, then hows about
using the sum of UK squares plus the sum of ALL countries worked.
