Sometime overnight on Monday last a Strumech Trailer Mounted BP60 tower was stolen from a Scout camp site in Nottinghamshire where it has been located and used since 1992.
The trailer is of quite early vintage, possibly being built in the late 70s or early 80s. The trailer is of heavy duty construction using large steel box sections and is fitted with a single beam axle, large 5-stud wheels and black plastic mudguards - total weight is about 1.25 tonne. The trailer itself was painted using Silver Hammerite but now in need of further treatment as rust is starting to show through in places on the tow bar, the 3 rear jack legs were painted white to make them more visible when it was being towed. It may have originally been used as a lighting tower as there are two large angle brackets welded to the tow bar just in front of the beam axle and was probably used to attached a generator - one of the forward facing web plates has had a large piece gas axed out of it presumably done when the engine was remove.
The two lower mast sections are genuine Strumech and are galvanised, whereas the top mast section may not be a genuine Strumech item as it appears to have finished with a grey, high zinc paint and as some surface rust starting to show - it also has also suffered some damage to a couple of the bracing bars. The mast is fitted with a relatively new Fulton K1250 winch used to raise the mast. The luffing winch is an old and rusting Fulton braked winch that has no handle fitted as this was removed and is presently in my possession. There is no head unit as this had also been removed and is now located in my garage.
The theft has been reported to Nottinghamshire Police who are not too hopeful of it being found as they think it may be sold on for scrap. In the hope that the perpetrator may try to sell it on I would ask that anyone who hears of either a BP60 mast without head unit or a complete unit that matches the above description being offered for sale contacts me so that I can pass details of its location to the poilce.
Thanks
