Sorry for the reflector reply, but Jim does not seem to be responding
to direct emails (check your spam folder?). But as you will see, this
is not quite so off topic as you might think.
I offered to translate Jim's article and have sent him a translation.
The article is about the DJ4VM multiband quad (surely what every
contester needs..) and although the source is not given it appears to
be an extract from the book Antennenbuch by Karl Rothammel - a classic
in German amateur radio circles but it seems there is no English
version. As such it is incomplete since there are references to text
and diagrams elsewhere in that tome.
The original article by DJ4VM appeared in DL-QTC (now CQ-DL, the DARC
mag) in September 1968. It was then published in Ham Radio by him in
August 1969. The DL-QTC article looks available in the DARC archive,
members only, obviously in German. I have not been able to find an
online copy of the Ham Radio one, the only archive I found has nothing
in it and it looks as if they have been removed for copyright reasons.
If anybody has access to Ham Radio I am sure Jim would be interested.
>From my study of the antenna, it has a very impressive performance but
the setting up is quite involved and is based on a fairly complicated
matching unit. The described process involves a GDO, there are probably
better ways nowadays.
I see there are loads of people using the DJ4VM but there seems to be
virtually nothing about it in English, which seems a little strange.
Maybe some of you know different.
(and Jim, if you did not receive my translation please say).
