Easily the best advice anywhere!  Go out with someone for your first trip and watch what they do.  Some of it might not apply to you (yet) but seeing someone else work before you solo is a great help.  It was to me!  Also, find a local VHF+ group and borrow some gear.  You'll quickly find out what works for you and what doesn't.
