[VHFcontesting] Are Mirage amps THAT bad?

Have looked at several different models of Mirage amps
to boost the station capabilities on 2 meters a bit. 
Looking at eham.net, and other places, it seems that
the current Mirage amps (MFJ) get terrible reviews. 
Tales of woe about the finals shorting out, the amps
blowing up, etc.  

Are these amps really that bad?  Has anyone had a good
experience with the current Mirage amps?  Wonder if
these reviews are selective (i.e. person has bad
experience, want to tell the world, whereas the
satisfied customers busy operating instead of blasting
the company)?  If I get one, is it likely to quickly
die?  So, are there good Mirage amps, or am I taking a
big risk by buying one?
