[VHFcontesting] The reward for submitting a log: 8-month wait

Before anyone misunderstands this as a flame...please understand that it is
not. I am simply provoking thought and discussion.

Remember when January VHF SS results were published in the June QST? That means
that the results used to be fully tabulated and submitted for publication by
mid-April. This is true...I used to call Billy Lundt to get "the word", just
before the Rochester VHF Group's Awards Banquet to make sure all logs were in
order and assuring there were no "suprise disqualifications" for anyone slated
to receive awards (see footnote).

August is closer to the next year's event than it is to the event it is
reporting. If you're like me, I'd be more excited about participating and
improving my station if I had the summer to do it based on the results.

This whole thread degenerated into the standard old "everyone must do their part
to evangelize if we are to survive" argument. I submit that there is room for
the ARRL to do something, too. Publish the results faster (certainly no later
than mid-April)...especially now that a majority of logs come in Cabrillo and
the results are web-published.

fwiw...
Ev Tupis, W2EV

footnote: The Rochester VHF Group has been giving away wall-plaques since 1985.
These are of the quality that the ARRL finds sponsors for in the June QSO
party. They aren't cheap. Verifying official results before presenting
anything makes sense.
