Can we dare think in entirely different ways? If so, read on...
Read through the first two items, as they setup the last one...which is the real
reward.
o Someone, please come up with a _simple_ Paper-to-Cabrillo computer program
+ The input screen looks like the "ARRL VHF-UHF-EME Log"
- No dupe checking
- No score calculating
- Include the ability to Save and Open (allowing you to work at it in
more than one session, if need be)
+ The output is a Cabrillo file that can be emailed to ARRL
o Establish two reporting categories:
+ Competitor Class (those that submit Cabrillo Logs)
- Eligible for awards, standings calculation and mention in the
recap writeup that appears in QST
+ Participant Class (those that submit paper logs)
- Not eligible for awards, standings calculation or mention in the
recap writeup that appears in QST
...note: this includes ineligibility to participate in club
competition
- Linescores still appear in the web results, however
o Publication of the official results 60-days after the close of the contest,
emailing the full results (in .PDF format) to everyone that submitted a Cabrillo
log. Now THIS would be GREAT! Properly established...this would be an almost
entirely a-u-t-o-m-a-t-e-d system...costing even less money (allowing even more
money to go to spectrum defense while actually increasing excitement and service
to ARRL members).
