[VHFcontesting] Contest Measure of Success

David,

I usually never work the same stations that I worked back in the 70s 80s or
90s. Personal interest change and even you may be found chasing DX on 160 in
a couple of years instead of operating VHF. What I attempted to convey in my
message is the ratio of stations active during the contest vs the number of
logs submitted. The current projection is that 1 out of 6 stations submits a
log after a contest. I do not have the data to back it up or know how it was
forecast.

I am implying that if we can identify what controls this ratio and make some
changes with new objectives and set goals to achieve a 2 out of 6, the
number of log entries would double without increasing current contest
participation. In my opinion (IMO) the contest criteria is not the problem,
it is the motivation to actually submit the logs.

After reading several of the e-mails regarding rule changes on this list, it
confirms just how hard it is to resolve rule issues. E-mail cannot convey
expression and seldom gains a consonance. Good ideas are very often
misunderstood and lost in the context. The most effective way to communicate
and resolve issues is in a real live meeting. I certainly hope that whoever
has their finger on the trigger at the ARRL is an intellectual and will not
make an e-mail based decision.
