I think the poll was a nice idea and was as close to scientific as we are
going to get in a hobby lime this. However the results could be misleading.
I counted with matches (so i might be off a couple) 183 no to 106 yes and
89 dont cares on eliminating grid circling. however of the 183 that said
no, 100 of them said that it should a differnt classification. 40 of the
dont cares said it should be a differnt class while 49 said no, but then
again for the most part they dont care.
Therefore 206 of 360 people polled sees the need for a change while about 85
people answered no to both questions of circling and classification change
being of a hard core leave the situation alone belief.
So since less then 1/4 of us strongly believe to leave the status quo I hope
the arrl would find a way for comprimise by making grid circling its own
classification. Its not to say 3/4 of us are for the change but about 60
percent of us would like to see a new class or eliminatination while the
rest (20%)dont care because they are concerned with other issues or are
content.
I think I saw a big no to captive roving.
I read all the comments during a boring day at work and learned alot.
That being said I think its even more important for the arrl to sponser more
vhf contests or we should get together and do it ourselves. Contests with
differnt guidelines, ect.. and we or the arrl should not be afraud to fail
as long as we learn from our failures.
I hope but do not expect any changes from the arrl. Those rovers who
continue to work themselves 90 percent of the time while in visual sight of
each other at some grid corner will continue to make the efforts of the
other 90 percent of us rovers who do not do this look bad in the pages of
qst and may get one more plaque on theier mountain top supersation wall.
Thanks for the support from the guys who appriciate the contacts and band
activity up here locally.
I gota go I hear ve8 land on 50.125 if only for a burst.
