i would not think so..

according to the arrl
**

Self-spotting is the practice of announcing your own call and run
frequency on the spotting network...
which is illegal according to general rules

the dx cluster uses Internet and/or telephone relays..
3.10. The use of non-Amateur Radio means of communication (for example,
Internet or telephone) to solicit a contact (or contacts) during the
contest period is not permitted.

and you can never spot yourself in a contest..in any class.. I don't see anything in the vhf rules at all saying you can..and the general rules say you cannot..

3.14. In contests where spotting nets are permissible, spotting your own station or requesting another station to spot you is not permitted.

I see Duane's gripe about the "FM with an omni" antenna range..

I do not see any reason why you cannot use ssb, in a rover position report system.. (RPRS? lol) the range should be better than fm..
