[VHFcontesting] Mt Everett FYI

The auto road to Mt Everett, elevation 2,600 ASL has been under repair for the past couple of years and was closed. It was opened this year but cars are still not allowed to beyond Guilders Pond, elevation 2,084 ASL which is how it has been for the past few years despite the road renovation. The statements on the website were misleading and I called and had a long discussion with a staff member of Mt Washington, MA State Park where Everett is located in anticipation of using it as a roversite for the 10 GHz contest. I was advised that the "new" road was one lane and therefore could be only used for emergencies. I would be interested in reading the proposal to obtain the funding for construction. (The only real two lane roads to the top of any mountain I know is in Yosemite.) I don't think the shot to Camelback will be to easy unless you want to walk to the top.

George, W1JHR

Hi Gang,

The K2QO rover team will be testing new spots this contest. We are starting
the September VHF QSO party on Dennis Hill in FN31 in CT. We'd like to
follow that up with a nice spot in FN32.

The only two spots in western FN32 highlighted on the N2MH site are
seemingly very dicey. FN32ja, Haystack Mt is mentioned by W1VT and FN32, Mt.
Everett is entered by W3CCX. The latter looks like it would be super to the
N and E. But the path to W3CCX looking SW looks impossible which is odd as
you figure that CCX would be sending rovers there.

We'll be taking 50-3G and would like some other ideas for FN32 spots. If we
need 2 locations, one to work half the compass bearings and a second for the
balance, that would be fine.

Help??

73,
Mark K2QO
FN03ra
