Ron, WW8WR brought up a good point regarding the announcement.
"It (the announcement) DID NOT say the UHF contest was definitely cancelled forever !"
And the announcement also says:
"The Committee will solicit member comments in the near future, as it weighs several alternatives."
If and when this committee solicits member comments about a future potential UHF contest, use this opportunity to express your opinion!
The decision to cancel the 2016 UHF Contest was made by the "VHF and Above Contest Revitalization working group" to the ARRL Program and Services Committee, and "the PSC agreed." The PSC reports directly to the Board of Directors of the ARRL. The PSC "advises the CEO of the ARRL on issues "including but not limited to contests and awards."
ARRL Bylaw 39. The Programs and Services Committee shall: Guide development of service delivery mechanisms, evaluate services, and recommend program priorities; Advise Chief Executive Officer on services provided to individualmembers other than publications, including but not limited to contests and awards, information services including Logbook of the World and W1AW, and incoming and outgoing QSL bureau services; Advise Chief Executive Officer onvolunteer programs, including but not limited to the field organization, affiliated clubs, volunteer examiners, Volunteer Counsel/Consulting Engineers, and educational initiatives; and Evaluate and recommend awards recipients to the Board for outstanding volunteer service or outstanding achievement.
