In my radio (FT-2000) the transverter output is only available (and
PA stages disabled) when the radio is set to a special "band" for
transverter use. That band is always 28 MHz. My 2 meter transverter
requires 26 MHz IF. For reasons of simplicity and so I don't
accidentally cause myself any more headaches or equipment failures I
want band change (including HF<>VHF) to be handled by my radio
control software. This also makes it possible for my logging
software to know what band I am on.
Also, I am wanting to implement a solution that is extensible to
other bands in the future. This creates additional software
complications. Theoretically the software could be modified to
understand the situation, but that would be a rather custom setup
that I won't be asking the developer to implement.
The above complications don't exist if I am free of having to use
the special "transverter band" on the FT-2000.
Maybe there is a way to deal with all this that I am not seeing. My
brain isn't what it used to be. ;-)
