[WriteLog] WRITELOG ERROR MESSAGES?

Im trying to run Writelog on a different computer.  I have used laptops to
demo recordings at
a few meetings, and always thought this was a result of replaying contests
from a CD; however,
I am trying to do a real new contest and when I type a letter in the call
entry window
I get this WRITELOG message in an error box:

Member not found.

I can clear the window by hitting ENTER then type another letter and hit
enter and so forth..
but I can't just type a call and log it without hitting enter after every
key stroke... I dont recall
this problem on my original setup, and cant see what might be turned on or
off to make this happen

any clues?

No radios interfaced but Log which radio makes the QSO seems to be
permanently checked
