No, I don't have a big switch by the shack door, so I can't say that I have
ever done that. However, we do occasionally have power outages, often only
lasting a few seconds, just enough to kill the computer. But, the best
protection against that is a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply). They cost
less than $100 (in the States anyway) and can hold the computer up for about
20 minutes during a power outage. Plenty of time to save your files and do
an orderly shutdown. During the contest on Saturday we had two or three of
those little 2 or 3 second power glitches, the rig blinked off, but my
computer never missed a beat. It's a worthwhile investment.
