Optocouplers differ only in frequency range what they can switch and current
(on the transistor side). I prefer to use CNY17, which handles 110 mA very
well. The 4N3x series are limited around 30mA. If you want to drive relays
(like in an SO2R box) the 30mA is usually not enough.

All the optocouplers I have seen are inerchangable.
