I believe stations who don't know the contest rules don't
send in logs, so you are safe. Otherwise the QSOs you changed
shall be rejected by the contest organizers during log
checks.

Did you eneter the appropriate National Society abbreviation?
If you leave the default zone number in the exchange field,
you get the problem you describe.
