DX Telnet is great for many purposes.  One-time fee for lifetime upgrades.
It does have a keep-alive, and exports to WriteLog and DX4WIN, at the same
time if desired.  It will even page you on your pager or phone for specified
spots!  See http://www.qsl.net/wa9als/dxtelnet.htm.  That page is slightly
