[WriteLog] Networking problem fixed

Thought I'd post a follow-up to yesterday's problem with networking
my 2 computers for Writelog (one running XP and the other Win98.)
The network functioned fine for print and file sharing, however, the
2 WLs would not talk to each other over the network.

I'm running WL 10.48, and the only recent change was updating Win XP
to SP2. Turns out the problem was the SP2 installation turned off
NetDDE functions. I followed instructions on the WL website
(http://www.writelog.com/NetSetupXP/network_setup_for_xp.htm),
specifically:
On the Windows desktop, right click the My Computer icon and select
Manage. Brows to the Services & Applications, Services tab, and
scroll until you see the two entries in the right panel starting with
NetDDE:
Right click on the "Network DDE DSDM" service and select "Restart".
It will ask if you want to restart some other services. Say yes. You
should also select "Properties" and set Network DDE DSDM to start
automatically at system boot, else you may have to do these
instructions every time you boot.

What is missing from these instructions is the other Network DDE
service listed just above the DSDM (whatever that stands for) entry
also needs to be restarted.

I first thought it was a Windows Firewall problem, but apparently
not. The network functions fine now, even with the Firewall turned
back on.

Thanks to those that responded.

Barry W2UP
