The recent thread by Rick, W1TY brought to mind the M/S rules that usually
require 10 min between band changes (or some variant of that). WL does a
good job of keeping track of that so far as I know. I rarely try M/S so
I'm no expert.
All M/S rules outlaw using a serious SO2R type of station where you can
have many band changes each hour... if you're good at it. This is a
serious drawback to the M/S category.
The one notable exception is the CA QSO Party (CQP) comming up in a couple
of weeks. In CQP, two (or more) operators can share a SO2R type station so
long as only one op is doing the operating at a time. When changing ops,
the new op MUST be the only op for at least 10 min. An infinite number of
band changes are allowed even in those first 10 min.
The advantage of this novel 10 min rule is that the one operator can use
any number of radios at the same time (but still restricted to one TX
signal at any given time).
This seems like an ideal way for Elmers to get their students trained in
SO2R tactics and operation: "Watch me", then "now you try it". It's also
a great way to just share a station with a bud.
Has anyone tried this using WL?
What problems occur?
