Bill -
I've been using WriteLog with WinXP for long time and use serial port 
keying for both CW and FSK.

I don't believe WriteLog supports keying CW on an LPT port.  But it can 
use a serial port for keying CW.

No need to purchase a pricey interface if you're willing to build a 
simple interface circuit yourself.  Use Google to search for the 
interface circuits.  They usually consist of a very few components wired 
to a couple of the serial port pins.
