What comes with WriteLog only sends the name in CW. It does not display the name on the screen.

This utility will allow you to see the name on the screen so you know who the individual is in advance, just in case you can not remember the name in the heat of battle. This enables you to either send manually on CW or to verbally say the persons name on phone.

Even though I downloaded and then posted links to this app after loading the
files on my web server

I am dumb founded on why !

*why we need this ?????????*

as WL has INI file tools built in for friend files

some research of the archives on the WL reflector found
this..................

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*WRITELOG FOR WINDOWS <http://www.writelog.com/> *

* WINDOWS 98 users: Please be aware that WRITELOG can not support more than
about 5000 call when using WINDOWS 98. If you are using WIN98, the last
20-25% will not work. This problem only exist with Windows 98. Other
versions of Windows are reported to work fine.*

To use the friend.ini file with WRITELOG, download the file. Unzip and place
FRIEND.INI in your WRITELOG "programs" directory.

In the CW/RTTY message memory HELP area, you will find the following:

The letter "H"

The callsign in the Entry window is looked up in Friend.ini. If it is found
then the text corresponding to the call is sent. So if, for example,
Friend.ini contains the entry "W5XD=HI WAYNE", then, if W5XD is the call in
the Entry window, then "HI WAYNE" is sent instead of the "%H". By default,
the section in Friend.ini that is used is "[HI]", but the "HI_SECTION" entry
in the "[Configuration] section of WriteLog.ini can be edited such that
WriteLog will lookup some other section in "Friend.ini".

Refer to the HELP FILES for more detail.
