It's generally accepted that FTDI chips are the only dependable cables, 
and there are a lot of counterfeits. If I needed USB to serial, I would 
either buy a cable from Elecraft (known real FTDI) or an Edgeport box. 
I'm using both in my station, both are known to be reliable.
