[WriteLog] Popular Logging Programs for CQ WW SSB

Add me to the list of disliking modes and side effects. In my design career
side effects only got me into trouble.

If I have to keep track of which mode I am in to know what is being sent is
right, that seems like a curse rather than a feature.
