Now first I tell you about how I prepare. Then I also want to
know how you prepare yourselves.
I use my preparations for arrl dx cw as a example.
What kind of contest ?
Arrl dx requires different approach than cq ww.
In arrl there is not so many multis in contest from dx side
only all states and Canadian provinces --> You dont need
concentrate on multipliers in same way than in for example
cq ww. Of course you should know which states are hard to
get and prepare yourself to fight for those multis.
Conditions ?
What kind of conditions you might expect is A index 0 or is
50. That makes big difference upohere in north.
Is there something special times to some special areas. Like
long path to W6 or something like that.
Station ?
Do you have monobanders and alpha or do you have qrp rig.
Do you have some strong bands ? Two radios ? and so on. If
something brokes can you repair it have you spare parts ?
Etc. Know what is possible from your station. Actually everytithing=
is possible you can break big piles with 100w ... SO THINK BIG !!=
Plan ?
If you want contest seriously you need somekind plan. At least=
how
many qsos, how many multis and so on. Then you know what kind of=
score
you might expext in contest. In plan most important thing is to=
know
conditions in which time in which band. From here it`s quite easy=
when
here is dark I`m on low bands or 20m then when bands start to open
I just try to be in highest band to states as simple as that. I=
also know
What kind of score I might expect.
From which band I should start ?
That depends from your station and conditions. There is no=
special
rule for opening band. In arrl I propably start in 40m but if 20m=
is open
to states then thats also good alternative.
EXPERIENCE HELPS, BUT WITH GOOD PREPARATIONS YOU CAN BE ONE STEP=
CLOSER VICTORY !!!
I hope this helps you guys. I really cant say how you should operate or=
prepare yourselves. You need
to think that by yourself
