Hello contesters...
Before a quick roundup of my contest weekend, let me tell you my
situation. Right now, I can only enter contests for fun, because
I only have toy antennas. My only real antenna is a 3el beam for
10m @ 8m high (on a telescopic push-up mast), the other is a
simple "inverted V" dipole cut for 20m CW but used on all bands.
So that's my poor station to contest and work DX - together with
a TS-850 barefoot. On Friday, I took the 10m beam apart as 10m is
D.E.A.D., and used the telescopic mast as a support for a
temporary 40m delta loop. Wow, this is hot stuff - sliced through
pile ups and even worked US Westcoast, new ones for WAS!
So I entered the contest just for FUN, because I love to contest
and practice and give points. I decided to try 24hrs for the
first time. I managed to be on the bands for about 19 to 20hrs.
Too bad I do not have better antennas, then I could do low bands
at night and high bands in between.
I liked it a lot because it is a fast contest for CW operators: I
was calling at 34-36WPM and most stations were even faster!!!
Also a lot of activity in CW (did not listen in SSB subbands), so
who says CW is old and forgotten?
My score:
"all band - low power - CW only":
Band Contacts Mults Score
---- -------- ----- -----
7 144 45 19080
14 299 49 50911
21 100 29 10440
28 7 7 77
Total 550 130 238420
No antennas for 160/80m and 10m was dead...
550Q's is my personal record, can't wait to build a real station
with tower(s) and beam(s) and vertical(s) other killer stuff
(dreaming doesn't hurt, right?). Oh yeah, two weeks ago a bought
a second TS-850 for a REALLY good price, so now I have more TRX
than antennas, hi hi hi !!!
WWYC's worked: KL9A, NR3X, 9A5K
OJs: missed 2: OJ6X and OJ7X

I do not have the station or "multiplier value" to call CQ
myself; people do not hear me well or are not interested in
working me as a simple ON, so I just did S&P (90%). My logger
N1MMLogger ( http://www.n1mm.com ) has this great function called
"spot all S&P QSOs" so when I work a station and log it, the
spotting goes automatic! I do not use the cluster often and I
don't like it to just sit there and see what passes on the
screen, but in contests, more spots means better filled bandmaps!
That is why so many spots came through... If you want a really
KILLER Windows-logger for contests, try N1MMLogger - it's free
but most important: it's GOOD!!!
73 es CU all in WAE CW (maybe some in IOTA, if I have time).
