Hoi lids,
the poll to vote for or against a possible rule-change in WWYC,
announced in our November 2004-Newsletter, on wwyc.net and here on the
reflector was running for about two weeks now and has been closed now.
For those who don't remember what this was all about, from wwyc.net:
> Following some discussions and my article in the last
> WWYC-Newsletter, I set up a poll to vote for a possible change of the
> rules regarding "Old Farts" of our club.
>
> The Poll-Options are:
>
> 1. Open WWYC for everyone as a regular member, regardless of age
>
> 2. Add associate membership for older hams who like to show their
> support, no membership-numbers or login.
>
> 3. Add honorary membership for hams who have supported the club.
> Honorary members can be nominated by any ordinary member.
>
> 4. Don't change anything!
>
And here are the offical results:
1: 8 &
2: 10%
3: 71%
4: 12%
Total votes: 51 = 9.622 % of our members
So there is no doubt that the majority of those members who voted
favour the third option: introducing a honorary membership for WWYC.
This means that every member of our club can nominate any ham who has
supported the WWYC in one way or another to become a honorary member.
The nomination including a short statement has to be sent to our email
reflector at contesting.com.
If there is no objection from another member against it within one
week, the honorary member will be accepted, if someone objects against
it, we have to put together a commitee which has to decide the case. I
sincerely hope that this won't happen! :-)
The new possible honorary members will then receive an e-mail with an
invitation which they will most likely not decline and then be
honorary members of WWYC.
Again some words on the structure of WWYC: We don't have written
rules, we have nothing like a real president or commitee to make
decisions. The idea to introduce this honorary membership was born
during some discussions between some YCs and I decided on my own to
start the rule change proposal in November, presented the idea in our
newsletter and asked for comments. I only got positive comments,
within a period of one week before I set up the poll, so I think
that it was legitimate to set it up.
So I hope that everyone will accept the change of our (unwritten :)
rules. I personally think that this modus operandi is just the right
thing for WWYC, although it has its limits;for example last year when
we sadly missed the chance to have a young contester on the CQWW
commitee, mostly due to misunderstandings and bad communication. :(
I hope everyone is pleased with this, now please go ahead and put your
comments and nominations on the reflector!
73, go wwyc!
