[WWYC] CQWW Committee fiasco

It's been very frustrating to watch as an "outsider" at this craziness which
has overtaken this club and email reflector regarding the CQWW Committee
selection process. Who's the best - who's the most qualified? Take a look
at the list of current committee members:

http://www.cqww.com/members.html

Just about every contester listed has more CQWW contest
experience than the age limit to be a WWYC member. So the argument of "so
and so should be selected because he placed 4th in last year's NAQP contest"
just doesn't hold weight with me. As I stated before, the position should
go to someone who is:

 1) Familiar with the CQWW contest, rules, and different categories

 2) Has the time to fulfill the committee obligations

 3) Is willing to pass information from the committee to the WWYC community.

The fact that someone has won 13 different contests in the past
5 years including ARRL, NAQP, the Sprint, ETC is pointless. We're talking
CQWW. We need to pick someone with the log checking procedures and someone
who knows the committee members and can easily network with them. I think
this is the point Chris (KL9A) was trying to hit upon when he made the
comments he did. As far as I'm aware, Chris and Luc are friends and they
will remain friends after this is all done and over. I for one respect
Chris for having the balls to bring up such a topic.

The argument that the majority of the members are European and
they don't listen to Americans is retarded. First of all, this club was
formed in Europe. Secondly, look at all the bickering that's going on. The
majority of the arguing is between Americans. I wouldn't blame them for not
listening to us.

It seems as if K3EST has opened Pandora's Box for the WWYC with
his offer of a committee position. It doesn't need to be this way. As a
club, several things didn't happen. There was almost no discussion ahead of
voting as to what qualities are required for the one selected. Then, when
the voting began, the results were shown real time before all the voting was
over. This was another serious error. It made it into more of a popularity
contest.

Come on guys. This isn't a drawing for a free trip to the
Caribbean. It's for a contest committee spot. Big deal. I guarantee, even
if you're selected, you won't have any easier a time to get an email reply
from K3EST than if you aren't. I know most of the committee members quite
well. It isn't all it's cracked up to be. Most of them are over-the-hill
and boring. Being selected won't help you get a job, finish your degree, or
find a girlfriend. It isn't that big of a deal!

I recommend that we put all this past us. We're less a club
than a group of people with common interests. Maybe it's best to decline
the offer, and to move on. I'm looking forward to chatting with Adam, Greg,
Chris, Luc, and the rest of you Europeans in #WWYC about more important
things. Like beer.

73, Dave N2NL
