[WWYC] Young Contesters Make Your Dream Come True!

I wouldnt say it's youngsters fault for not applying or that it's youngsters
that will give wrong message about not needing the money.

You cant expect young people to apply when there's no constant system for
helping youngsters - only few lucky ones can earn bigger points becuase
they're lucky enough to either live or have youth friendly amateur radio
enviroment because you need like 2500 points to get in as team leader for
young team

6 months prior the WRTC you cant expect any miracles to happen.

10,000 bucks for 10-15 people is not that big help as you must spend like
500 usd just to pay a room. To get there from Europe and spend those few
days in PY you need like 2000-3000 USD. I dont think for US guys it's any
easier. How many youngsters would count on this help but still finding like
1500 USD just to watch the game and hang out? Dream come true? I sure wont
be going to PY if I wont be in a team. I also rather chose WWYC Meeting for
hanging out :-)

Money wise on the cq-contest list after the N0AX's post about young people
only WWYCers replyed (N6MJ, SM0W, M0CLW - all those guys mentioned how hard
it is for youngsters to find money to travel to PY). I havent seen any other
OM replying - as for any other young contesters related topic. Great to have
few people to think about youngsters but it's simply not enough. Yet again
you cant say that young contesters said they dont need money.

I think 7 youth applications is a very good result considering the fact that
organizers wrote in the rules "If there wont be more then 3 application ...
".

This is no doubt this is a GREAT thing but if 10,000 bucks dont raise the
results of youngsters booming in with applications I wouldnt blame them
only. Nobody tought of youngsters in those 33 contests that counted for
WRTC.

This WRTC however could be a good start and make older people to think more
about youngsters, hopefully not too late!

And my last tought... you cant tell me there's no potencial in helping
youngsters more constant and more often because nobody complained about high
prize hotel for WRTC which will take out of the contesters pockets around
100,000 USD. With 10-20 bucks cheaper accomodation you could give out 10
FT1000MPs to 10 young lids.

Just some toughts...

I dont say this is bad, this is GREAT, but lets not expect too much of
youngsters just because they're offered with some money - you need lot more
work if you want progress on this field.

Hrle - 9A6XX

> Hi all,

message Hrle sent just before New Year, but containing some contact details
for anyone interested. Have many of our under 22 year olds now applied ?!?
Time is running out. To show WWYC's enthusiasm and thanks for this
sponsorship gesture, I think it's very important that a lot of applications
are submitted. If only a few are received, it could send a message that we
don't like / need sponsorship, for WRTC or any other events, which I'm sure
isn't true.
