Hi,
Good point Ulf, but maybe there is a serious point to make here. Why
is WWYC getting on average older? We have our website back again, and
the IRC chatroom is always open. Perhaps this is now too much like
1990's technology to enthuse the next generation of young contesters.
Maybe the recent addition of the Facebook page will help with
publicity - perhaps we need to "be cool" and join Twitter in 2012 ;-)
Lisa - please ask the youth group at FHN how many like contesting, and
how many have heard of, and/or joined WWYC. It would be interesting
to see how many new contesters there are, or if the likes of PSK, or
newer activities like WSPR, SOTA and D-STAR appear more attractive
than contesting these days compared with 5 or 10 years ago.
Or maybe our WWYC publicity machine just needs more activity - more
visibility online and on-air, and more emails to this list. New WWYC
members do join, but I think in fewer numbers than in the early years
of the group. One problem is that some of the key players in this
group's early days are now more busy with work, families and different
hobbies. Good to see many still putting in great scores each week
though. I think we would benefit if the newer members can start to
drive activity, meetings etc.
73,
Lee G0MTN
(Now OF contester, parent, and at work in the middle of the night :-
no time for radio or FHN visit!)
