[Yaesu] FT-1000-D and CAT Support for Software ?????

Hello ....

A friend of mine has just purchased a used FT-1000-D xcvr and is 
having some problems getting it to work with his NA software that 
worked FB with his TS-940s. He is using the Yaesu interface ...

I recall that the early FT-1000-D DID NOT work with some software
until a chip was changed/updated. So please fill in the blanks ...

1. What serial number ranges did this apply to ?
2. Part number for the chip ? Other changes needed ?
3. Can this be done "in-shack" or only at Yaesu ?
4. Other things to check ?
