There are two things you have to pretty much ignore on an MP... the ALC
and COMP meters.

If you dont run the ALC over range, it'll never put out decent power on
SSB, and the compression meter reads very low.

Run the mic gain up til it hits the right side of the meter firmly, then
bring up compression to read about 5 db. On mine with
a Heil 5, it ends up being at about 10:30 on both controls.

I've asked Yaesu techs about this before and they really have no good
answers, so I've just done on the air checks and listening to my own signal
to adjust things and have had no complaints from anyone sofar...

My ALC indication seems to be the reverse of what I expected,
With 10 watts out ALC is almost FSD.
Increasing power brings indicated ALC back towards left of screen
and towards right hand edge of red ALC line until 100 watts ouput and
ALC indication is just within the red sector.
This is the case for both ssb and cw tx.
On air reports are of good audio and clean CW.
This had been the case since new in June and before I performed the power
mod
which is totally successful.
Any ideas please.
