I had the same fault on my FT990, my fault was a dry joint on the +5V
regulator
which sent 10V around all the boards. apparenty this shouldn`t do much damage
but the -5V regulator couldn`t take it and that gave up, followed by the
`digital` audio
filter IC`s, the main CPU and the other control board ICs.. 
OOOPs, new control card  required!...
