The VOX on my FT-920 works flawlessly.

I don't think, as the owner of a FT-920, that this radio is a serious enough
rig for contesting.  On the other hand, it is a great radio for rag chewing
and a pleasure to use as a daily rig.  It's the best compromise for budget
buyers.
