[Yaesu] G-800DXA Issues

Hi Dave,

I thought of that but it tends to work when it's cold and dry. It has broken free in the past few minutes and has almost full range of movement. The temp is -2C and sunny.

It worked fine when I had a smaller diameter mast but I replaced it when it snapped off a few months back. The new mast is larger and has surface rust. It may be rubbing on the guide on the tower between the rotor plate and the thrust bearing plate or it may be getting some moisture in these areas and that is freezing enough to limit the movement.

My basic question is should the rotator be so weak as to be unable to break free of that? I checked the gaps in the tower guide and they weren't so bad as to restrict the rotation before the winter.

When the mast snapped off, I was forced to either leave it all down or repair it as best I could in winter weather so the job was not as good as I would have liked. I will be doing a complete refit of the rotator assembly in the spring but it's really annoying now HI. Perhaps I will replace the rotor cable at that time as well.

Thanks -- Paul VO1HE

try replacing the cable... it sounds like a resistance problem whaer-as the
voltage drop at the rotor might be to great .???????
