Comments:

Well, for all my "contest friends" who laugh at my antenna, I proved
today that I could "run" for an hour and make a laughable number to
some, but quite satisfactory number of Q's for this LID operator by
"running" with 5 watts out.

Yep, I parked at 14037.5 for the first 20 minutes (which may have been a
mistook), then moved to 7037.5 and continually called CQ CWT @ 20 WPM, using my
trusty J38 and my left foot --- no actually I let my computer do the sending.
Why 20, and not the 25 WPM "so-called" minimum for CWops? Well, I do
have a Winkeyer, but I haven't got one of those things call "A Round
Tuit" so it hasn't been installed. I must have had too many things
running in the background, and the oomputer started to sound like my left foot
when I tried above 20 WPM.

For the first 20 minute I made a giant 5 q's, or 1 q every four minutes. There
were few and far between reports on the RBN of SNR>10 db, which meant I
wasn't getting out very well. After I switch to 40 meters, the number of RBN
reports of SNR>10 reached near 100%, with quite a few 20, 30 and higher dB.
So, in meant my "laughable antenna" was actually performing a bit
better than a dummy load buried 6 feet underground."

In the final 40 minutes I made 21 contacts, or abbot 1 q every two minutes.
As I often say, I'm continually amazed at what 5 watts or less to a wire
antenna can do. Yes, I've operated as guest op at a "super station"
a few times, but in doing it's more like shooting ponds a duck than a contest
of skill.

I do stand in awe of those who make 100 or more Q's n an hour in these tests,
but it's more fun to me to experiment with much lower power.
