People must waste a lot of time with surge protectors and
clamping diodes Rich. According to your "logical deduction", all
they need is a 120 volt rated line bypass cap and a fuse because a
component will always instantly fail and clamp the voltage at the
number printed on the side of the component.
500 volts, 1000 volts, 3000 volts. Who really knows what the
voltage breakdown will be. ANY of those voltages are too large to be
coupled out to common solid state rigs!
