More churning of grey matter here. I have an article somewhere which uses 3
x 4CX250s for a 400W output hf amp. Can't remember the author, it was in a
UK magazine. The philosophy was not to try any squeeze every last W/dB, but
to use extra devices since they are so cheap. For real cost/size/weight
saving, the designer went for voltage doubling 240V line both ways to give
+/- 700V to run from, then double isolate the metalwork. I can dig it out
and scan or photocopy it if there's interest.
