Been there, done that, works great!

This is the scheme used when adding the big Peter Dahl transformer to
the Alpha 77SX.
There are many out there in use; the guys just don't talk about it
much!
Just make a box for the transformer, and put it conveniently near your
240 v. outlet in the
ham shack. I would suggest #4 or #6 wire from the service entrance
panel to the transformer.
The circuit breakers can be sized to your operating style.
