To be very honest, I only held a novice ticket for about two years around
1980-1982 I think it was or maybe a little after that. It's been so long, I
cant even remember what my call sign was, especially since I didn't really use
my radio out of that time for maybe 6 months. I just remember it was while I
was in high school sometime. After I received my ticket, I got disgusted with a
few local hams, and more and more wanted to quit. To be honest, they had just
as, if not more, foul mouths as what any CB'r had, and their arrogance was even
worse. Everytime I turned on my transceiver, I always heard those same local
hams put down the very fellow that got me interested in electronics. The boy
who had tried for his ticket worked at a local CB shop where I actually got my
start. The owner was who got me started in it when I was around 12. I think I
was around 14-15 when I took my test, I'm not sure. The last year of it, I
hardly ever turned a radio on. After what happened, I droppe
d it and never looked back. To this day, I think the boy didn't pass because
of his relationship with that CB shop as well as his problem he had with using
his hand on the key. This boy was kind of shaky like all the time, sort of like
he was always nervous. His name was Randy Taylor, and went to Vo-Ed with me in
electricity-electronics. He now works for the local cable company back home. To
be honest, my dealings with CB amps years back was probably more out of spite,
even though I did need the work, just over what had happened. Until they change
the way they do things, I wont ever try for a license again. The only reason I
do what I do now is because I didn't get to work long enough to where my
disability check pays enough. At that, the only repairs I do is for a few
friends and family around here. Then the government ended up screwing me out of
the backpay they owed me which I was depending on using to start my transformer
shop up. Since, I've been pieceing it together a
little each month as I can afford it. It's going to be next year now before I
can start winding new ones. Now all I can really do fast is repair one. Anyhow,
that's a little history, I believe more than you asked for, but sometimes I get
long winded.
