A comment was made about contesting: "to generate the cleanest and most
narrow signal to punch through the pile-up in a contest". I agree with
that guy.
It's been my experience that between contests there is a vast amount of
potential air time where people like to have conversations. I'm almost
positive that the example given of the guy with the big 4-1000 rig did not
build it so he could say: "5x9, please QSL via the bureau". In the summer
time, with 25 over 9 static crashes, I prefer to hear a conversation from a
fat, quieting, quality audio signal than to hear a narrow, nasal signal
where the guy keeps saying: "Ahhhhhhhh" between sentences to keep his vox
on.
The other comment made was: "For the most part the technicians among us are
still self-policing". Most of the time I tune the band the "technicians"
are just comparing menu options on radios that real Japanese technicians
built. What frequency do you guys hang out on?
Send me the frequency, I'll listen and learn.
