Yeah! You guys really showed Bob. That'll teach people what happens when
someone dares post a question (smile, smile).
There are several broadcasting towers for TV, AM and FM all grouped together
within a one-mile radius near me in Milwaukee. They all straddle an urban
area, one even has a guy anchor in the Wal-Mart parking lot. It has become
common knowledge to Milwaukee residents who frequent the many stores in the
area that your vehicle's remote control is unreliable in this location. I
didn't believe it until I changed the batteries in by girlfriends remote and
was able to use it to start the car from a block away while in the driveway
but not from two stalls away when near the broadcast towers. Nermin, maybe
you haven't head of such things in S5 land.
It is extremely unlikely that direct damage to electronics may result to
such RF exposure but it may be reasonable to consider any indirect damage.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who has experienced weird things happening to
my logging computer at field day, such as the screen going blank or keyboard
freezing while transmitting. It seems plausible that the same RFI
that interferes with keyless entry may also be causing some problems with
your fuel/O2 mixture, engine diagnostics record, or other functions that are
now controlled by the CPU of your vehicle. I didn't see any ferrite beads
over the leads on the engine sensors of my car.
So Bob's question is certainly valid, albeit not much of a concern at 1500
W. I would say that if your station is properly configured and you have
found no other evidence of RFI; such is in your computer, TV, telephones,
etc, you need not worry.
