REPLY:

Grounding the non-shaft side will add some stray capacitance from the
shaft side to ground. On the higher frequencies, this may be too much.
A good example is ten meters. Most amplifiers have trouble enough
getting a reasonalbe Q on ten because of accumulated stray
capacitance. Adding more by grounding the non-shaft side of the tune
cap just makes it even more difficult.
