I have started fires with almost every end insulator but glass at one time
or another. That having been said, I was using them at the voltage point. I
am sure as a center insulator with a current feed point, it would not be
much of an issue.

REPLY: 
Almost certainly they are high-density polyethylene. I have used them as a
poor man's breadboard for power supplies and such, and they work fine, but
they have a low melting point and their RF characteristics might not be
adequate for high power stuff..
