I have always turned my FT1000D down to 150W in these things (SS too).  Also
turned it down to 100W in other contests with that requirement.  Also turned it
down to 5W in QRP categories. I also have run an amp to get to the 150W
threshhold with an exciter which wouldn't get there. In all cases, I monitored
the heck out of what ever I was running  to make sure I ran the right power.

100W -  150W  -  20W - 1.5 KW:  Set it where you want - that's what I'll run!!
