As a mobile in several state qso parties each year, I run my IBM 760C with a 
"car adapter", i.e. a DC-DC inverter, supplied by a 26AH battery.  After 12 
hours the battery is pretty well sucked down (to about 11+ volts).  If your 
computer's power consumption is similar (I'd suspect it is), figure 2 AH/hour, 
plus a safety factor.

BTW, the car adapter I use is very quiet, unlike my experience with 12VDC - 
115VAC inverters.
